Manu Om is a project founded by Manel Mèlich Solana, a kirtan musician and Bhakti Yoga practitioner from Barcelona in 2007. The project became a full musical/spiritual initiative around 2012 after the release of the first album I Love Sadhana. Since then, Manu Om has released multiple albums and reached a global following through streaming platforms with some songs gaining more than a million streams on Spotify.
Manu Om describes his work as being influenced by Bhakti Yoga and Advaita Vedanta, spiritual traditions that emphasize devotion and non-dual awareness. He views his music as a spiritual expression rather than a purely personal product. Bhakti Yoga is an ancient transformative practice of loving and devotion. One of Manu Om’s recurring messages is “May you wake up singing, may you practice singing, may you walk singing, may you forgive singing. Sing, sing, sing… May death find you singing.”
Manu Om’s music is designed to be easy to chant and participated in. This call-and-response aspect of his music is the core of Kirtan music. His vocal delivery is soft, and clear and is supported by repetitive instrumentation. The music is meant to create a reflective listening space, and encourage presence and focus.
