Tsur’s musical journey developed alongside a broader spiritual and personal exploration. During his travels around the world, he began developing music as a form of authentic self-expression. In interviews and personal accounts, he has described beginning to sing spontaneously rather than through formal vocal training. He has also spoken about how his experiences with communities during his travels, including a community on Hawaii’s Big Island, influenced his early songwriting and opened up a more primal approach to music and expression. His philosophy subsequently developed around exploring what the natural human voice can express.
Tsur’s music frequently incorporates repetitive vocal lines, chants, mantras, and communal singing, reflecting his background in sacred music circles and vocal workshops. Audiences are encouraged to participate by singing along with the chants and vocal lines, making his live performances highly participatory. His workshops and singing circles encourage participants to find their own voices, explore self-expression, and express emotions that may be difficult to articulate through words alone. His music can broadly be categorized as world music, blending world-music traditions with devotional sounds, sacred and ceremonial elements, and conscious lyrics. His work also sits within the contemporary conscious-music scene, drawing heavily on the traditions and aesthetics of medicine music and ceremonial music.
